A Wild Day

A big thank you to Jake Riggs for being my first client of the year and for being happy to head out to Chair Ladder in conditions that can only be described as "Challenging"!  Jake had come into climbing after a career in rugby, so I'm sure a little wind, rain and heavy seas wasn't going to scare him.  He had done some climbing in the Peak District and in North Wales, but wanted to learn more about sea cliff climbing, so I explained how to read tide tables and assess sea conditions before looking at abseiling and abseil safety (much of the climbing on sea cliffs has to be accessed by abseil).  Then it was bravely into the eye of the storm to make an ascent of Mermaids Climb.  We had to miss out the first pitch, which starts at sea level, due to the huge waves that were pounding the base of the cliff, but were soon making our way up the crag.  Then it was back to my van and a well-earned cup of tea.
